Moon Sweepers Shared Upgrades in Multiplayer Explained
Yes, Moon Sweepers' Upgrade Matrix is shared across the crew. See what 1.0.3 changed, what it covers, host kick and ban controls, and why reports differed.
Yes. In Moon Sweepers multiplayer, the Upgrade Matrix is shared across the entire crew. Since the 1.0.3 patch, the whole crew draws on the host's Upgrade Matrix, and a purchase by any crewmate applies to the entire crew. The official 1.0.3 patch notes add that when an older save is loaded, each upgrade keeps the best level any crewmate had reached, so those recorded levels carry over.
Why launch-era reports differ
The developers' October 24 message identifies shared upgrades as a deployed change. Advice written before that change may describe earlier behavior. For the current sharing rule, use the dated 1.0.3 announcement rather than assuming an older comment still applies.
What "shared" covers
Be precise about the scope. The 1.0.3 notes describe a shared Upgrade Matrix specifically. They do not say that tools, inventory, money, or vehicle ownership are pooled. Vehicle access has separate garage rules in those notes. Those rules do not establish how every purchase is owned or shared, so keep equipment ownership separate from the confirmed matrix-sharing rule.
Crew moderation
The same 1.0.3 patch added host controls. Open Your Crew in the ESC menu to see everyone in the session; from there the host can remove a player by kicking or banning them. A ban is tied to that save, so a banned player cannot rejoin it until the host lifts the ban from the same menu.
Later 1.0.4 changes
The 1.0.4 patch does not announce a reversal of the matrix-sharing rule. It adds other multiplayer fixes:
- Ground synchronization reworked: players now share one view of the cleaned ground, robot trails and hand cleaning included, which the developer presents as the answer to dust reappearing. This is the stated fix, not a guarantee that every synchronization issue is resolved.
- Shared belt building: crewmates may add splitters and mergers to belts another player built.
- Improved mergers: a merger now takes turns between its inputs.
These are building and world-state changes, not upgrade changes. Don't read them as expanding what the Upgrade Matrix shares.
1.0.5 note
The 1.0.5 patch (October 28, 2026) does not announce a reversal of the matrix-sharing rule either. It adds a Public Game Warning, a prompt shown before you open a public game or make your crew public. It covers what other players could do to your Moon and points to the kick and ban options in the ESC menu under YOUR CREW, which matches the host controls described above.
Version note
The 1.0.3 notes required all crewmates to be on 1.0.3 to play together. That was a requirement at the time of that patch, not a claim about which version players must install now. Check the latest official announcement for the current version before planning a session. For related systems, see the J.O.O.N.A.S. guide and save backups.
Moon Sweepers FAQ
Are upgrades shared in Moon Sweepers co-op? Yes, the Upgrade Matrix is. Since 1.0.3, everyone uses the host's matrix and a purchase by any crewmate upgrades the whole crew.
Are money and inventory shared in Moon Sweepers multiplayer? The 1.0.3 notes do not say that tools, inventory, money, or vehicle ownership are pooled. Only the Upgrade Matrix is confirmed as shared.
Can the host remove a player in Moon Sweepers? Yes. Hosts get kick and ban options under Your Crew in the ESC menu. A ban is tied to that save, and it can be lifted from the same menu.
Do all crewmates need version 1.0.3 in Moon Sweepers? That was the requirement when 1.0.3 was released. It is not an instruction to install 1.0.3 now, so check the latest official announcement.
